PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain focal point-detecting functions (capability to detect a maximum phase difference) equal to each other in length in two directions irrespective of a position on a screen by arranging focal point-detecting pixel arrays each having the same arrangement length on the screen densely and uniformly in the two directions. SOLUTION: A plurality of focal point-detecting pixels receives luminous flux for detecting a focal point, and outputs focal point-detecting signals for detecting a focal point-adjusting state of an optical system by a pupil-splitting phase difference-detecting method. The plurality of focal point-detecting pixels constitute a plurality of focal point-detecting pixel arrays, which in turn are arranged in a plain-woven pattern substantially over the whole imaging surface. The plain-woven pattern in one embodiment is the style in which parallel and perpendicular focal point-detecting pixel arrays, both being equal to each other in length, are mutually arranged in a high-dense manner.
