Esters of aromatic dicarboxylic acids and glycols are prepared by heating a mixture of the components, using at least an equimolar proportion of glycol, in presence of an organic base and a compound containing at least one Sn-O bond. Specified bases and Sn compounds are: BuNH2, Me3CNH2, (Me2CH)2NH, Pr2NH, Bu2 NH, (Me2CHCH2)2NH, Me3N, Et3N, Pr3N, Sn(OCO.COO), Sn(OMe)2, Sn(OEt)2, Sn (OCHMe2), Sn(OBu)2 and SnO. Examples describe the esterification of terephthalic acid with ethylene glycol. |
