PURPOSE: A method for measuring the relative phase of a living cell and a device for measuring the relative phase of a living cell are provided to make living cell comprised of multiple layers imaged, since the relative phase of the living cell is calculated. CONSTITUTION: A method for measuring the relative phase of a living cell comprises following steps. First and second polarizers(120,170) are arranged on front and rear portions of the living cell. The polarization state of the first polarizer or the second polarizer is changed. If the polarization state of the first polarizer is changed, a wave plate(130) is placed between the first polarizer and the living cell. If the polarization state of the second polarizer is changed, the wave plate is placed between the second polarizer and the living cell. The strength of the light passing through the first polarizer, the second polarizer, and the wave plate is measured. The phase delay of the light by the living cell is produced using the intensity of the measured light.
