PURPOSE: A filter element for the subsequent treatment of exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine is provided to reduce the consumption of material having a catalytic effect for catalytic action without the declination of efficiency. CONSTITUTION: A filter element for the subsequent treatment of exhaust gases from an internal combustion engine comprises an inlet channel(2), an outlet channel(3), a free cross section, and a partition(4). The inlet channel hermetically seals a material and one side of an open pore. The outlet channel is sealed up at the opposite direction of the diameter direction. The exhaust gas flows in the partition walls, made of open porous metal material, through the inlet channel. The exhaust gas flows in the adjacent outlet channel. A free end is changed to the direction of the outlet channel or the opposite direction from the inlet channel. The partition separates the inlet and outlet channels. The thickness of the partition regularly keeps through the whole domain in through the exhaust gas flows.
