A method, equipment and a system for inputting characters are provided. The present invention relates to the field of remote control technologies and the field of communication technologies, and solves the problem of low efficiency in inputting characters via a remote control device in the prior art. The method includes: initiating a soft keyboard, wherein the soft keyboard is divided to at least two subareas by different identities, and each subarea has a focus; receiving a confirm signal; inputting the character pointed by the corresponding focus according to the received confirm signal. The present invention is applied to the scene of inputting characters.
