<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device of a color filter-on array system having a coloring section of two or more colors that further reduces the step of an alignment layer than before and prevents deformation of a spacer formed in a contact hole. <P>SOLUTION: This liquid crystal display device includes an optically transparent first substrate 10, an optically transparent second substrate 20 facing one main surface of the first substrate 10, and a liquid crystal layer 30 held in a gap between the first substrate 10 and the second substrate 20. The first substrate 10 includes an optically transparent insulating substrate SUB, a first coloring section 13G having a tapered first end face 13Gb, and a second coloring section 13B having a tapered second end face 13Bg.
