1337447 Optical scanning systems; panoramic cameras XEROX CORP 19 April 1971 [26 March 1970] 24977/71 Headings G2A and G2J An optical scanning system in a line-by-line photo-copier, as described an electro-photographic copier, comprises a light source 24 and lens 26 movable relatively to an apertured plate 30 which defines the area exposed on a curved photosensitive surface, and a lens 28 which corrects the tracking error caused, in a direction perpendicular to the aperture length, by movement of the curved photo-sensitive surface. The lens 28 is either plano-convex Fig.8 or a Fresnel lens Fig.9, (not shown). In Fig.5, the original 20 is stationary and planar, while the photo-sensitive surface is a rotating cylinder 10 and the lights 24 and lens 26 are movable to scan the original. In Fig.8 the original is a continuous transparency strip 41 fed past a stationary projector 45 containing a light 43, condenser 44 and a projection lens 46, the cylinder 10 rotating as before. The housing 45 film 41 and correcting lens 28 may be positioned inside a rotating cylinder 10 Fig.9, (not shown) charged on its inner surface. In another embodiment Fig.10, (not shown) a stationary curved photo-sensitive surface (52) in a panoramic camera is exposed by an optical assembly (51) comprising an imaging lens (26), aperture (30) and correcting lens (28), the assembly (51) being rotatable about the axis of curvature of the surface (52). In another embodiment Fig.11, (not shown), the original is mounted on the surface of a rotating document drum (54) and is imaged on to the rotating cylinder (10) by a stationary scanning system, the lens (28) compensating for the tracking error from both the original and the photo-sensitive surface. The embodiment of Fig.12 provides a stationary curved original support 55 and a document is scanned by a rotating mirror 57, on to a rotating cylinder 10, the lenses 28, 26, aperture 30 and lights 24 being stationary. |
