PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a separator used in an alkaline battery, such as a nickel-cadmium battery or a nickel-hydrogen battery which takes a form of a thin film and has alkaline resistance, mechanical strength and size stability. SOLUTION: The separator is able to provide a separator that is supeior in mechanical strength, size stability, and ionic conductivity without deterioration in an electrolytic solution using a concentrated alkaline aqueous solution of about 30 mass%, by including a polyphenylene sulfide fiber and two or more kinds of polyolefin fibers having different melting points. In the present invention, the polyphenylene sulfide fiber thermally processed at the glass transition temperature or higher is preferably used. COPYRIGHT: (C)2011,JPO&INPIT
