PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect torque abnormality of a cylinder injection engine. SOLUTION: Requested torque is calculated on the basis of an accelerator opening Aacc and engine speed in a requested torque calculating part 32, air amount base actual torque is calculated on the basis of an intake air amount in an air amount base actual torque calculating part 33, and fuel amount base actual torque is calculated on the basis of a target fuel injection amount or a supplied air-fuel ratio in a fuel amount base actual torque calculating part 34. In normal times, when a combustion mode is controlled in a homogeneous combustion mode, the air amount base actual torque is selected as actual torque for abnormality determination, and existence of torque abnormality is determined by comparing the actual torque for abnormality determination with the requested torque by a torque comparing part 35. On the other hand, when the combustion mode is controlled in a stratified charge combustion mode, the fuel amount base actual torque is selected as the actual torque for abnormality determination, and existence of torque abnormality is determined by comparing the actual torque for abnormality determination with the requested torque by the torque comparing part 35.
