A bumper is provided with a bumper lining that is fixed directly or indirectly to the cross beam. An impact element (6) is directly arranged behind the bumper lining with a small distance. The impact element has a larger length in the vehicle longitudinal direction and extends across a larger width region of the motor vehicle. The intermediate layer is reinforced by textile-, glass-, mineral-, carbon- or natural fibers.
