An olefinic feedstock is purified by contacting the feedstock with a supported alkali metal at - 50‹ to + 80‹ C. and 0-2000 p.s.i.g. Suitable supports are Al 2 O 3 , SiO 2 , the carbonates or chlorides of Na or K, or sepiolite. Metal alkyls formed by the reaction of the feedstock with the supported alkali metal may be removed by contact with a further bed of inert material of high surface area, e.g. silica. The feedstock may be a feedstock suitable for disproportionation over Re 2 O 7 /Al 2 O 3 catalysts. |
