1294830 Allyl ethers of unsaturated oxiran derivatives F HOFFMANN-LA ROCHE & CO AG 19 April 1971 [27 Jan 1970] 20437/71 Heading C2C The invention comprises compounds (I), where R 1 is methyl or ethyl; R 2 , R1 2 and R 3 are hydrogen, methyl or ethyl; R 5 , R 6 and R 7 are hydrogen, C 1-6 alkyl, C 2-6 alkenyl, C 2-6 alkynyl, C 6-12 aryl, or (C 6-12 aryl)-C 1-6 alkyl, where the aryl residues may be substituted by halogen, C 1-6 alkyl, C 2-6 alkenyl, C 2-6 alkynyl, C 1-6 alkoxy, C 2-6 alkenyloxy, C 2-6 alkynyloxy, C 1-4 alkylenedioxy or nitro; X is methyleneoxy in which the methylene group may be substituted by methyl or ethyl, or oxycarbonyl, the latter groups being attached to the carbon atom bearing R 5 and R 6 by an oxygen atom; and m and n are 0 or 1, and the preparation by epoxidizing a compound (II), by converting a compound (III) where Z is chlorine, bromine or iodine to a compound (I) by known methods, by reacting a compound (IV) with a compound (V), where one of K and J is chlorine, bromine or iodine and the other is an hydroxy group, R 8 is hydrogen or R 8 and R1 2 together represent a further C-C bond and R 10 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, by reacting a compound (VII) with a compound (VIII) or by partially hydrogenating a compound (VI) or (IX) where R 8 and R1 2 together represent a single C-C bond. Unsaturated ethers (II) may be made by reacting a compound similar to (IV) wherein the epoxide group is replaced by a C-C bond with a compound (V). Unsaturated esters (II) may be made by reacting a compound similar to (VII) wherein the epoxide group is replaced by a C-C bond with a compound (VIII) or by esterifying a compound (X) with a compound (V), e.g. by initially converting compound (X) to its acid halide. Hydroxyhalo compounds (III) may be made by hydroxyhalogenating a compound (II). A pest-controlling agent comprises one or more compounds (I) with a suitable carrier.
