The feed unit of a cap cutter for cutting the welding area of point welding electrode, comprises a base frame (24) having a pivotable axis, a swivel arm (28) that is connected with the base frame pivotable around the pivoting axis and is pivotable between a pivotable position and a resting position, a positioning device that is arranged between the base frame and the swivel arm, a base element (32) that is arranged on the swivel arm in adjustable manner, where mounting means (34) are provided that enables a connection of the base element on the swivel arm in different positions, a feed element (36) that carries the cap cutter and is adjustable against the base element between an active position and a passive position, and a drive that is arranged between the base element and the feed element. The feed element is hinged around the pivotable axis pivotable on the base element, or the feed element is guided in a linear guide of the base element, or the feed element is connected over parallelogram arms with the base element in pivotable manner. The cap cutter comprises a rotation axis, which passes transverse to the direction of a displacement path of the feed element between the first position and the second position. The cap cutter is present external of an area between the point welding electrodes, when the feed element present itself in the passive position, or the cap cutter is present in a cutting position between the point welding electrodes of the cap cutter, when the feed element is present in the active position, or the cap cutter is present in a cutting position between the point welding electrodes, when the feed element is present in the active position. A carrier arm is present that is arranged on the feed element in pivotable manner and is movable between the active welding position and the passive welding position, where a sensor is arranged on the carrier arm. The sensor is present in the active position in the active welding position of the carrier arm, and a character of the point welding electrode is detected. The cap cutter has a rotation axis, where the movement of the feed element is carried out against the base element between the first position and the second position in a movement plan, and the rotation axis is right-angled to the movement plan. The sensor of the carrier arm is present between the point welding electrodes in the active position or in the passive position of the feed element. A chip collection device of the cap cutter is mounted on the base element or on pivotable arm. A flexible hose connector is arranged between the cutting device and the chip collection device, or a strong tube connection is provided that consists of two junction parts, which are connected to each other, when the feed element is present in the active position. An independent claim is included for a swivel unit.</p>
