1330221 Cutting SANDCO Ltd 30 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12433/71 Heading B5A An apparatus for cutting a continuously moving material e.g. a crystallizing or gelling mass 4, into cubes, on a conveyer belt, comprises knives 7 each mounted on a swinging arm 8 pivotally mounted at 13a on a link 13 of an endless chain 6, supported on a frame 14 extending across the belt at an angle, and knives 7<SP>1</SP> each mounted on a swinging arm 9 pivotally mounted on a cross tube 5 and incorporating a weight 22. The chain 6 is driven by wheels (11) and (12), Fig. 1, not shown, and is fitted with an adjustable tension device (20). Guides (19) co-operate with bearings 17 on the arms 8 to ensure that the knives are lifted from the material at the end of each cut and guided around the chain reversal points. The arm 14 is pivotally supported at 15 in a frame 3. The speed of the chain can be varied in accordance with the speed of the conveyer. The knives can be heated or cooled.
