Class 87(2) Relates to extrusion heads, for making tubes or covering wires, of the kind having a tubular mandrel 9, Fig. 1; which supports an inner die 18 in co-operative relation to an outer die 6 to form an annular extrusion orifice 17. According to the invention the inner die 18 is supported by the mandrel 9 through the intermediary of an inner die support member 21 (as shown 18 is secured to 21 by a set screw 28) which extends rearwardly through the mandrel, and this support member 21 has a hemispherical bearing portion 22 which seats in a concave surface 25 on the front end of the mandrel. By moving the rear end of member 21 laterally the die 18 may be pivoted on the bearing 22-25 to adjust the clearance between the inner and outer dies 18, 9. This lateral adjustment is effected by screws 37 which bear on the member 21 or, as shown, on a collar 38 secured to member 21. The hemispherical bearing 22 is held resiliently on its seating by a multiarmed leaf spring 30. When the inner die 18 is not of circular cross-section, angular adjustment thereof may be effected by means of screws 40, Figs. 1 and 2, which bear on surfaces 41 on the collar 38. In modifications:- (1) (Fig. 3). The curved mandrel end 25 of Fig. 1 is replaced by a rebate 25a. The lateral adjustment of the rear of member 21 is effected by means of a screw 47 carrying a collar 49 fitted on the rear of member 21, this screw being carried by a ring 45 that can be turned about the longitudinal axis of the head and locked in position by screw 50. Screw 47 is carried by a rotatable sleeve 46 locked in position by screw 51. Screws 54<1> angularly adjust member 21. (2) (Fig. 4). The hemispherical surface 22 seats on a conical concave surface 25b and is held thereon by a coil spring 35. The inner die 18 is screwed into the mandrel at 29. Lateral adjustment of member 21 is afforded by two telescopic eccentric rings 55, 56, and angular adjustment of die 18 by rotating a ring 71 which is keyed to 21 and prevented from inadvertent rotation by serrations 74 thereon and a spring detent 75. (3) (Fig. 5). The hemispherical surface 25 is formed not on member 21 but on the mandrel 9, and co - operates with a stepped surface 24a on member 21. (4) (Fig. 6). The co-operating surfaces are spigot-like, as shown at 24b and one surface may be rebated or stepped (Figs. 7 to 9, not shown). (5) (Fig. 12). The surfaces may be held seated by elastic fluid pressure applied to 'the space between two sealing rings 76, 77, which may themselves be hollow and filled with fluid pressure. (6) The die 18 may be be splined on head 21 or may be a hexagonsection fit (Figs. 10 and 11, not shown).
