[Also in Division A5] Novel esters of malic acid with 1 - phenyl - 1 - propanol; 2 - phenyl - 2 - propanol; 2 - phenyl- 1 - ethanol or 3 - phenyl - 1 - butyne - 3 - ol are prepared by conventional methods, e.g. by direct esterification at a temperature of about 110-200‹ C. The water is eliminated as it is formed and the ester purified by the usual methods. The esters may be the mono- or diesters. |
