[Also in Division C3] Substrates, e.g. of glass, tinplate or steel are coated with a composition comprising an epoxy resin and a diamine: x and y and integers having a sum of 3 to 19 and z is an integer from 2 to 4. A preferred N- secondary-alkyl diamine is N-secondazy (C 11 - 14 ) alkyl-trimethylenediamine The epoxy resin may have an epoxide equivalent of 100 to 2000 and may be a polyglycidyl ether of bisphenol A. The amount of amine and epoxy resin used may vary from Œ 15% of the stoichiometric amount required for reaction between the epoxy and amine groups. A tertiary amine catalyst may also be employed. Conventional solvents and pigments, e.g. TiO 2 , may be present. The composition may be cured at room temperature or by baking, e.g. at 250- 400‹F. |
