[Also in Division C3] A composition comprises (a) an α-substituted #-lactone having the formula in which R is a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group and R<SP>1</SP> is hydrogen or a C 1 -C 4 alkyl group and (b) as a stabilizer, from 0À0001% mole to 0À5% mole, based on the lactone of an aryl diazonium salt of a complex fluoroacid having the formula in which Ar is an aryl group free of active hydrogen, A is the central atom in the complex fluoroacid anion, n is an integer 1-4 and x is an integer 4-8. Suitable lactones are α- methyl - # - propiolactone, α - ethyl - # - propiolactone, α - butyl - # - propiolactone, α - ethyl - α - tert - butyl - # - propiolactone, α,α - diethyl - # - propiolactone and α,α - dimethyl - # - propiolactone. As stabilizer p - chlorobenzene diazonium hexafluorophosphate may be used. |
