PURPOSE: An alkali-swellable emulsion composition is provided to ensure excellent particle dispersibility and stable viscosity, to enable smooth formulation when formulated with other functional components, and to maintain the quality of formulated products. CONSTITUTION: An alkali-swellable emulsion composition includes: an acrylic emulsion including an aqueous medium, anionic emulsifier, and acrylic copolymer; and a thixotropy imparting agent. The thixotropy imparting agent is prepared by aqueous emulsion copolymerization of monomers. The monomers include (a) 5~70 weight% of α,β-ethylenic unsaturated carboxylic acid monomer, (b) 10~90 weight% of nonionic α,β-ethylenic unsaturated monomer, and (c) 0.05~1 weight% of polyethylene-based unsaturated crosslinking monomer.
