PURPOSE: A navigation device for a vehicle and a method of upgrading data thereof are provided to prevent the unnecessary consumption of fuel, since engine-starting is not necessary during data upgrade. CONSTITUTION: A method of upgrading data of a navigation device comprises following steps. If upgrade is determined(S120), data route required for navigation operation is changed from a first storage space to a second storage space(S130). While the operation of the navigation is performed using the data stored in the second storage space, the data upgrade of the navigation device is carried out(S140). If the upgrade is completed(S150), the route of data is converted into the first storage space(S160), and the operation of the navigation is performed(S170).
