PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem in a conventional air conditioner wherein a negative ion generator is installed on the air suction side and only the air passing through the negative ion generator is charged negative, and in consequence, certain volume and space are required to cause an increase of ventilation resistance on the suction side to thereby lower suction performance. SOLUTION: The negative ion generator 1 is provided with a needle-like discharge electrode and a needle-like counter electrode, wherein high voltage is applied between these electrodes, and air is allowed to pass between the electrodes to charge dust in indoor air. The negative ion generator 1 is also provided with a conductor for connecting the discharge electrode and the counter electrode, and an insulating cover for covering the conductor.
