The device has a control equipment (2) producing control signals (S) to a drive and/or steering device (5) of a motor vehicle i.e. passenger car (1), to receive interruption instructions (B) from a remote control (10) and interrupt an already started parking process of the car after receiving the instruction. Cameras (7a-7h) are coupled with the control equipment for recovering image data over surrounding areas (21a-21h) of the car. The control equipment sends signals (17) to the remote control, where the signals contain the image data recovered and/or computed by the cameras. An independent claim is also included for a method for assisting a driver while monitoring an autonomous parking process of a motor vehicle.
