1301205 Comminuting extruded resin HYGROTHERM ENG Ltd 28 May 1971 [6 June 1970] 27469/70 Heading B5A [Also in Division B2] Resin is comminuted by cooling a plurality of simultaneously extruded resin rods and breaking it into lengths by guiding it along a curved path. The apparatus comprises an endless conveyer belt 4, Fig. 1, for the resin extrudate and an endless breaker belt 8, both carried by rollers, 5, 7 and 9, 10, 11 respectively, which are rotatably mounted in a framework 6. The conveyer belt 4 passes round a discharge roller 5 at the discharge end and the breaker belt is carried by an adjustable first roller 11 positioned above the discharge end and upstream of the discharge roller to provide a clearance between the belts and a second roller 9 positioned beyond the discharge end but at a lower level, causing the breaker belt to curve about a portion of the discharge roller of the conveyer belt. Both belts are driven in the discharge direction of the conveyer, and the breaker belt is preferably chain-driven faster than the conveyer belt, by means of a variable-speed motor unit 20; Fig. 2, with a twin-output reversing gear-box 24. Brush rollers 35, 36 sweep the surfaces of belts 4, 8. A cooling plant for the resin comprises a cooler section 43, Fig. 3, having water sprays and a cold air blower 50 and a conveyer belt 45, the resin breaker 47 being at the discharge end. The broken resin is blown with hot air from a fan 51 and cold air from a fan 52 and discharged into a storage device 53. Fumes are carried away by a stack 54. |
