<p>Polysulphides of s-triazines-from dimercapto-s-triazines and sulphur subchlorides. The title cpds. have the formulae I and II:- (where n is an integer between 3 and 20, esp. 4-10; x and y each lie between 1 and 4 such that x+y is greater than 2; Z = phenyl, R1O, R1S or -NR2R3; R1 = a C1-C18 alkyl gp; R2 and R3 are, independently, the gps R1, benzyl, a C5-C8 cycloalkyl gp. or H, also R2 with R3 may form a morpholine, or a piperidine ring which is opt. substd. singly or doubly by 1-4C alkyl), and are prepd. by dissolving or suspending a cpd. of formula III :- in an organic solvent under anhydrous conditions and reacting it with a sulphur subchloride, esp. sulphur dichloride or disulphur dichloride at a temp. below ca 50 degrees C so that there is 1 equivalent Cl- per equivalent SH. The resulting HCl is removed and the reaction product is isolated. Pref., the solvent is tetrahydrofuran. The cpds. are used as cross-linking agents or as promoters in vulcanisation mixtures.</p> |
