PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for converting message format are provided to match a receiving message with a transmitting message by converting a message used in heterogeneous systems. CONSTITUTION: A field error of a converting target KVMF(Korea Variable Message Format) message is examined. A pre text format is initialized(S301). A converting target field value is read in the message in the KVMF format(S303). A validity and range of the read field value are tested. According to the message of the free text, the size of the read field is limited(S305). A transmission target content is substituted in the free text field(S307).
