1311374 Solvent-soluble azo dyes; fuel additive AZIENDE COLORI NAZIONALI AFFINI SpA 15 June 1971 [17 June 1970] 27920/71 Headings C4P and C5G New solvent-soluble mono- and dis-azo dyes, which are used to colour petroleum derivatives (e.g. gasoline and gas oil) in yellow and red shades, of formula wherein m is 1, 2 or 3, n is 1 or 2, X is H or NO 2 , Y is H, Cl, NO 2 , C 1-3 alkyl or C 1-3 alkoxy, Z and Z<SP>1</SP> are H, Cl, C 1-3 alkyl, C 1-3 alkoxy or C 1-3 acylamino, R 1 is alkyl or R 2 is H or C 1-3 alkyl and R 3 is C 1-18 alkyl or cycloalkyl, are prepared by treating dyes of the above formula but containing a terminal -(CH 2 ) m CH(R 2 )-OH group with a vinyl ether CH 2 =CHOR 3 in an anhydrous organic solvent and in the presence of an acid catalyst at a temperature up to 100‹ C. The product after neutralization of the catalyst with an anhydrous base is in the form of a solution which is used directly for colouring purposes. |
