1326241 Cupola furnaces BRITISH CAST IRON RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 2 Dec 1970 [23 Jan 1970] 3388/70 Heading F4B A cupola furnace comprises combustion chambers 2 equi-spaced around the periphery of the iron melting zone, burners 3 supplied with liquid and/or gaseous fuel, a coke bed 7 which receives iron melted by the combustion products from the chambers 2, and water-cooled oxygen lances or electrodes 10 for superheating the molten iron. The molten iron may be further superheated in an electric furnace. A base plate 4 which includes a drop-bottom door supports a sand bed 6.
