1,218,257. Electrolysis of brine with mercury cathode. KUREHA KAGAKU KOGYO K. K. April 19, 1968, [April 19, 1967; Dec. 13, 1967], No. 18630/68. Heading C7B. In a cell for the electrolysis of aqueous alkali metal chloride using a mercury cathode, the upper part of one wall is provided with an inlet 106 and the wall opposite there to is adapted so that the alkali metal chloride solution may overflow from the surface of the electrolyte together with liberated chlorine, e. g. by flowing through gap 109 and into passageway 110. Alternatively the overflow outlet may be provided by means of a row of apertures in the cell wall. Mercury and electrolyte may flow at right angles or parallel to each other, and in the latter case a proportion of the electrolyte may be withdrawn with the mercury via trough 104 and outlet 105. |
