1317387 Seaming non-metallic sheet material HABRA-WERK WILHELM F OTT KG 13 Oot 1971 [16 Nov 1970] 47571/71 Heading B5K Apparatus for welding plastics films or plastics coated or lined packaging materials comprises internally-cooled impulse-heated welding jaws 20, 21 and mechanically actuated closing devices for moving the jaws 20, 21 towards one another, the arrangement being such that, in use, the devices are locked in a dead centre position whereafter fluid pressure actuated clamping members 16, 17 complete the jaw closing movement. A driven swivel arm 3a reciprocates a push rod 3 which rotates a crank arm 1a provided on a shaft 1. A guide 4 carrying the jaw 20 is reciprocable on rods 5, 6 through the joints 8, 9 by a member 7 mounted on the shaft 1. Connecting rods 12, 13 are pivoted on bifurcated cranks 10, 11 mounted on the shaft 1 and are rotatably mounted on a beam 14 carrying a base 15 on which the hydraulic pressure actuated members 16, 17 are mounted. The jaw 21 is carried by a guide 19 connected to the members 16, 17. The jaws 20, 21 are attached to impulse welding strips 25, 26, compensating tensioners 27, 28 being provided. The jaw 20 is mounted in a recess 29 to ensure parallelism of the strips 25, 26. Bores 30 for the circulatoin of a cooling agent are provided in the jaws 20, 21. In operation, upon rotation of the shaft 1 clockwise of Fig. 1, the cranks 10, 11 are raised and the rods 12, 13 move the jaws 20, 21 towards one another until the cranks 10, 11 and the rods 12, 13 lock themselves in a dead centre position. The members 16, 17 advance the jaw 21 to press the materials to be welded firmly against the jaw 20. After welding, the members 16, 17 are retracted by way of the beam 14 and the base 15. To ensure adequate opening movement, clip plates 22, 23 may be provided over the beam 14 and the guide 19. |
