The method involves estimating a median matrix of a sample from a set of N covariance matrices of a series of signals received by a radar, where N is an integer greater than 1. The estimating step of the median matrix is performed by estimating an optimization problem solution (4) using a specific equation comprising a matricial distance parameter and strictly positive real parameter. The covariance matrices are constructed by a covariance matrices construction module (1). An independent claim is also included for a device for processing a signal received by radar for detecting targets.
