PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an onboard vehicle detection technology for detecting a preceding vehicle or an oncoming vehicle around a vehicle. SOLUTION: The vehicle detector is configured to determine an image processing region corresponding to a vehicle candidate point acquired from a location acquisition sensor in an image captured by an image pickup device, and to perform identification by using a vehicle shape model on the image processing region, and to detect the front face/back face of the corresponding vehicle around the vehicle, and to output the vehicle location by evaluating the surrounding image of the detected vehicle, and calculating the direction of the vehicle, and to calculate the inclination of the detected vehicle to the vehicle, and to calculate a bird's-eye position of the vehicle and the detected vehicle from the vehicle location and the inclination of the detected vehicle, and to determine the possibility of the collision of the vehicle by estimating the trajectory of the vehicle and the detected vehicle.
