1,129,677. Aluminium alloys; anodising. KAISER ALUMINUM & CHEMICAL CORP. Feb. 3, 1966 [Nov. 4, 1965],. No. 13298/68. Divided out of 1, 129, 676. Headings C7A and C7B. An extrusion of aluminium alloy including 0.2 to 0.6% Si, 0 to 0.35% Fe, 0.15 to 0À5% Cu, 0À1 to 0.4% Mn, 0.4 to 0.8% Mg, remainder Al and impurities, e. g. maximum 0À1% each of Cr 2 , Zn, Ti 2 is anodised in an aqueous electrolyte containing 0À1 to 4% H 2 SO 4 or equivalent sulphate ion and 0À09 to 0.7 g mol/1 of an aromatic sulphonic acid having at least two hydroxyl and /or carboxyl substituent groups, e.g. sulphosalicylic acid, sulphophthalic acid, sulphoresorcinol or lignosulphonic acid, using D. C. at 30 to 130 volts and a current density of 10 to 120 ASF of immersed anode area, to produce a coloured e. g. light gold or bronze to black anodic oxide coating thereon. Prior to anodising, the alloy extrusion may be tempered by solution heating e. g. at 700 - 1000‹F, and rapidly cooling and ageing at room temperature or artificially ageing e. g. by heating to 300 - 475‹ F. until the hardening ingredients precipitate. |
