A method for channel set up in a communication system that comprises first and second radio network controllers supporting different respective first and second radio access technologies in respective first and second wireless networks is described. The first radio network controller transmits a downlink channel setup request to the second radio network controller of the second wireless network and receives a downlink channel setup acknowledgement from the second radio network controller of the second wireless network.
