PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for driving a solid-state imaging device and a solid-state imaging device for reducing the variation of a saturation amount of a signal output corresponding to signal charge photoelectrically converted by a photodiode. SOLUTION: In the solid-state imaging device 1, in the first period before starting to read signal charge accumulated in pixels 11 to vertical CCDs 13, the number of continuous vertical transfer electrodes to which a middle level voltage is applied is controlled to N1 (N1 is an integer≥0) to drive the vertical CCDs 13, and in the second period for reading the signal charge accumulated in the pixels 11 to the vertical CCDs 13 and transferring the signal charge to a horizontal CCD 3, the number of continuous vertical transfer electrodes to which the middle level voltage is applied is controlled to N2 which is larger than N1 (N2 is an integer≥1) to drive the vertical CCDs 13.
