PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To calculate a rainfall rate with high resolution and high accuracy. SOLUTION: The weather radar system includes transmitting/receiving units 11-16 simultaneously transmitting a radar wave of a horizontally polarized wave and a vertically polarized wave and receiving the reflected wave thereof and a signal processing unit 17 calculating a received power of each polarized wave from the received signal. A data conversion unit 19 calculates a radar reflectivity factor (Z<SB>H</SB>, Z<SB>V</SB>) and a differential radar apparatus reflectivity factor (Z<SB>DR</SB>) based on the received power of each polarized wave, calculates an average precipitation intensity (R<SB>ave</SB>) of each low resolution area based on a specific cross polarization differential phase (K<SB>DP</SB>) calculated based on a cross polarization differential phase (ϕ<SB>DP</SB>) of the received power, calculates a first constant (B) in a relational expression (Z<SB>H</SB>=B×R<SP>β</SP>; B,β: constant) between the radar reflectivity factor (Z<SB>H</SB>) and a rainfall rate (R) from the differential radar apparatus reflectivity factor (Z<SB>DR</SB>), estimates further a second constant (β) based on the average rainfall rate (R<SB>ave</SB>) and the radar reflectivity factor (Z<SB>H</SB>), and calculates the rainfall rate (R) with a first space resolution on the basis of the relational expression.
