PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology capable of reliably detecting the double feed state of sheets by a relatively simple constitution irrespective of the double feed form of the sheets. SOLUTION: When a print execution instruction is input by a start key (YES in #1), the drive of a fan is started by a fan control unit (#2). When a detection signal is received from a distance sensor unit (YES in #3), a determination unit determines whether the distance indicated by the detection signal is equal to or longer than a threshold (#4). When the determination unit determines that the distance indicated by the detection signal is equal to or longer than the threshold (YES in #4), the determination unit determines that a double feed state is generated (#5), a conveyance control unit stops the conveying operation of paper sheets, and a control unit makes, for example, a display unit or a sound output unit output the message indicating that the double feed state of the sheets is generated and instructing the removal of the sheets in the double feed state (#6).
