An alloy steel consisting of about 0.15-0.25 percent carbon, 8-12 percent nickel, 0.50-1.5 percent molybdenum, up to 1 percent each of manganese and silicon, up to 0.25 percent V, balance substantially all iron, heat treatable to a combination of high strength and high toughness with controlled austenitic transformation.
