PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cellulose nanofiber that has a high molecular weight and also avoids discoloration when molded into a molding. SOLUTION: The method for producing a cellulose nanofiber includes: a first oxidation step in which cellulose is oxidized in a first reaction solution including an oxidizing agent including a hypohalous acid, and an N-oxyl compound; and a second oxidation step in which the oxidized cellulose obtained in the first oxidation step is oxidized in a second reaction solution including an oxidizing agent which oxidizes an aldehyde group.
