PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording apparatus and a recording method suppressing lowering of quality of a recorded image by increasing the frequency of detection operation of ejection failure of an ejection port, increasing reliability, and suppressing lowering of throughput in recording. SOLUTION: The recording apparatus 200 can load thereon a recording head 111 with a plurality of ejection ports ejecting ink formed therein. The recording apparatus 200 has a first ejection state detecting means performing a first ejection state detection performing the ejection state detection detecting whether ejected ink droplets are normal or not, for every ejection port formed in the recording head 111 at one time. In the recording apparatus 200, the plurality of ejection ports formed in the recording head 111 are split into a plurality of ejection port groups. The recording apparatus 200 has a second ejection state detecting means performing a second ejection state detection performing the ejection state detection for ejection ports of one ejection port group among the plurality of ejection port groups.
