PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing of a commutator which allows the effective use of a material, and the commutator manufactured by the method. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method of the commutator comprises a first process for manufacturing a rod member 3 by cutting a copper wire rod 1 whose cross section is almost circular by a preset axial length l, a second process for manufacturing a cold-pressed pellet member from the axial direction of the rod member 3, a third process for manufacturing a bottomed circular cold-forged member having a bottom by cold-forging the pellet member, and a fourth process for manufacturing a cylindrical ring body by punching the bottom of the cold-forged member. Then, a commutator ring is formed of the ring body manufactured at the fourth process, the commutator ring is formed of a mold material succeedingly, and the circumferential wall of the commutator ring is cut at a several number of points at almost equal pitches, thus forming a plurality of segments.
