ANTIOXIDANT AND SKIN EXTERNAL PREPARATION

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an excellent skin external preparation having an antioxidant effect in naturally derived components since some of them do not have a sufficient effect and accordingly the development of superior components is demanded. SOLUTION: It has been found that the component obtained by extracting dried pulverized leaves and/or stalks of a plant belonging to the genus Diphylleia in the family Berberidaceae with a 50 mass% aqueous ethanol solution or purified water as an extracting solvent at room temperature or 120°C has an excellent antioxidant effect, and thus the component is used as an antioxidant or a skin external preparation for cosmetics.
