The present invention discloses a method and system for controlling handover type of Home Node B. The method and system configure handover policies for a first Node B and a second Node B. The method also includes the following steps: the first Node B obtains the identifier of the second Node B and determines the type of the second Node B according to the obtained neighbor Node B list; the first Node B performs handover type control according to the type of the second Node B and handover policies; the first Node B provides its own identifier to the second Node B; the second Node B determines the type of the first Node B according to the identifier of the first Node B and the obtained neighbor Node B list; the second Node B performs handover type control according to the type of the first Node B and handover policies. The present invention enables the network to control the handover type supported by the Home Node B in the mobile terminal handover procedure based on Home Node B system.
