PURPOSE: A method for compressing and decompressing block unit data, and an apparatus thereof are provided to improve compression ratio by classifying one file into at least two blocks and selecting a compression algorithm most proper to each block. CONSTITUTION: A block setting unit(104) classifies the data of an original file into at least two blocks, and a compression unit(108) adopting a compression algorithm for the corresponding data of the block in order to generate block compression data. A compression file generating unit(110) generates a compression file including a block body and a block header for each block. If the block is compressed, the bock body includes the block compression data. If the corresponding block is not compressed, the bock body includes the original data for the block. |
