PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To fix a paper upper surface position at a stable position, and to carry out stable paper feeding without poor suction or double feeding. SOLUTION: An air suction type paper feeding device has a paper feeding unit sucking paper by a suction belt 2, and carries the paper while sucking to the suction belt 2 one by one. The air suction type paper feeding device includes a paper feeding tray having a generally horizontal surface on which a plurality of the loaded paper can be placed, and including a bottom plate 6 rising/lowering in a vertical direction; a paper upper surface position detecting mechanism 30 detecting the position of the uppermost surface paper; a rising motor raising/lowering the bottom plate 6 so as to make the uppermost surface paper height on the paper feeding tray 21 become regular height (a target distance h) on the basis of the detected position detected by the paper upper surface position detecting mechanism 30; and an actuator driving mechanism switching a vertical position of an actuator 31 between a paper height detecting position and a paper height non-detecting position.
