Heading C4P. 3<SP>1</SP>-Hydroxy-quinophthalone dyestuffs which are free from sulphonic acid groups are of the general formula in which R 1 and R 2 , independently of each other, -stand for a C 1 -C 17 alkyl radical, with the proviso that the total number of carbon atoms in R 1 and R 2 is at least 16; Z 1 stands for a halogen atom or a nitro, C 1 -C 4 alkyl, C 1 -C 4 alkoxy or acylamino group; m is 0, 1, 2 or 3; Z 2 is a fused benzene ring; and n is 1 or 0. The dyes are prepared by reacting an appropriate quinophthalone acid halide with a secondary alkylamine.
