PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a discharge lamp UV enhancer in which starting performance is improved by irradiating efficiently ultraviolet rays, surface discharge and atmospheric discharge are prevented from occurring at the outside of a glow discharge tube, and cracks are not caused at a pinch seal part even if an external force is acted in the bending direction of a lead wire. SOLUTION: The discharge tube 11 to emit ultraviolet rays has a light emitting part 18 on one side and a lead wire leading out part 19 on the opposite side formed interposing a pinch seal part 17 for sealing an electrode assembly 16, and the lead wire leading out part 19 is formed into a sleeve 20 having a prescribed gap between the lead wire 15, while an outside electrode 13 arranged at the outside of the light emitting part 18 is formed of a holder H which is worked by bending a metal plate. The holder H has a slit 21 to irradiate ultraviolet rays and a clip 22 to pinch and hold the front and rear of the pinch seal part 17, and a projection 23 which positions the clip 22 at a position separated for a prescribed insulating length from the lead wire leading out part 19 side is formed at the pinch seal part 17.
