PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compressor including an axial gap motor preventing shortage of lubricating oil in an oil sump. SOLUTION: The compressor (10) includes: a casing (11) formed with the oil sump (18) at the bottom; a drive shaft (20) vertically extending in the casing (11); a motor (30) in which a disk-shaped rotor (32) fixed to the drive shaft (20) and a disk-shaped upper stator (31) fixed to the casing (11) are opposed in an axial direction of the drive shaft (20); and a compression mechanism (40) installed below the motor (30) of the drive shaft (20) in the casing (11) and compressing a refrigerant. A communication passage (70) is formed between the outer peripheral surface of the motor (30) and the inner peripheral surface of the casing (11) for letting the refrigerant discharged from the compression mechanism (40) flow upward and an oil separator (80) is provided in the communication passage (70) for separating the lubricating oil contained in the refrigerant from the refrigerant.
