PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly crystalline and highly transparent polyester resin excellent in heat resistance, injection-moldability, thermoformability, and releasability and a process for producing the resin. SOLUTION: The crystalline polyester is characterized in that content of an element selected from the group consisting of calcium, lithium, barium, and strontium included in the polyester resin is≥4 mol/t and≤30 mol/t, the rate of change in the content of the element is≤75%, and, after 10 g of the polyester resin is dissolved in 100 g of orthochlorophenol and foreign materials in the solution are separated with a high speed centrifuge, 2 g of the polyester resin is dissolved in 20 ml of a mixed solution of phenol and 1,1,2,2-tetrachloroethane at a volume ratio of 3 to 2, and the haze of the solution determined using a cell having an optical path length of 20 mm is≤7%.
