A method of treating a pulmonary disease such as, for instance idiophathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF) and asthma, comprising administering an aerosolized interferon such as interferon α, interferon &bgr; or interferon γ in a therapeutically effective amount is provided herein. Also, pharmaceutical compositions of one or more aerosolized interferon(s) are provided.
