PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lightweight and simple opening holding device of a back door capable of holding the back door so that a gas spring prevent it from opening up to the uppermost end and it does not rotate up to the lowermost end by its self-weight. SOLUTION: The opening holding device of a back door 10, which maintains a back door of automobiles at a desired open position in resistance to its biasing force, includes: a cable winding drum 16 supported rotatably; an inner cable 19, one end of which is fastened to the drum, which is wound on the drum, and the other end of which is fastened to the back door in the direction of resisting the biasing force; a mechanical spring, which biases the drum in the direction for winding the inner cable; and rotation control mechanisms (17, 26, 18, 28, 36), which permit the rotation of the inner cable of the drum in the cable winding direction and changes over a one-direction rotation state, in which the rotation of sending-out direction is restrained, and a restraint releasing state, in which the rotation of the drum in both direction is permitted.
